Geneva Permit Rules (What Actually Happens)
Private property placement does not need a city permit. That covers most of the west side.
Anything touching public property does need one, and Geneva is specific about what counts.
A permit is required for any container placed in the public right-of-way , the street, the alley, or the sidewalk adjacent to your property. The City lists overnight pods and dumpsters as examples.
Permits go through the Public Works Engineering Division at 1800 South Street, (630) 232-1501. Fees are set in the City's fee ordinance (Ordinance No. 2024-38).
On the west side the HOA is usually the real gatekeeper. Eagle Brook, Mill Creek, Williamsburg and Fisher Farms run active design review committees with their own views on duration and screening.
